[Tips] Make RivaTuner 2.24 work with automatic 2D/3D clock switch mode

Computer Hardware & Software, Tips & trick, by brigs.

I think almost every geek computer user that using modern GPU know what is RivaTuner. Yes, that tools was build by Unwinder from Guru3D.com and use for tweaking Graphics Processor Unit both from ATI or Nvidia based. Every kind aspect like GPU or Memory clock changer, registry mod or some driver level tweaking by power user can be done easy with finger.  And this time, i want share how to make RivaTuner working with dynamic clocking in 2D/3D switch mode. This tweak can be use for automatic overclock utility according to GPU workload. In 2D mode (desktop) core and memory clock can be switch to be lower for make them cooler and silent. That’s the perfect situatian for listening music or watching your favorite movie and then if you are expecting more GPU power for gaming time they working stick properly give you more enjoying frame per second

The first time you must be preparing the tools and your rigs. You can download latest RivaTuner 2.24 from here and for this purpose tips writing here i using oldies Geforce 9600GT G94 based GPU. Here the tips that i explain above.

1. Install with properly RivaTuner in your rig. This is the one important here cause if RivaTuner can’t recognize your card properly you can’t using my tips for these moment.

2. Open Hardware Monitoring tabs and make sure they working properly and with here section you can customize the monitoring item plugin as your card properties. Look at “Data Source” and make sure the “Hardware Acceleration” was tick on.

3. Create 2D and 3D clock profile overclock GPU in “Driver Level System Tweaks”. You can adjusting your core, shader and memory clock and testing them for stability mode. After that, go to “Launcher” tabs section and make both profile for main purpose. For example my card can work 3d mode with core/shader/ram 720÷1800÷1125 Mhz and i will make them easy cool with 2D mode default factory clock only. For GPU fan adjustment i will raise for 65% speed in 3D mode and only using 15% speed in 2D mode to avoid noise.

Make 2 profile switch under Launcher tab

Make 2 profile switch under “Launcher” tab

3. Goto “Scheduler” tab section and make again 2 profile switch changer here. Hit the green “Add New Task” cross and do this:
For 3D select Launch “item” on specified schedule and select the 3D profile you created earlier in step 3. Run Task on “hardware monitoring range event” In Data Source select “Harware acceleration” and set a range of 0.5 min and 1.0 max. Now add a new task for 2D. Same as above except you select the 2D profile you created in step 3 and your range will be 0.0 min and 0.49 max. One tips for Data sampling and freeze period lower that 100ms will act to aggresively change and my recommended between range 100ms — 250ms here.

4. Great.… now you can testing your profile switcher with application that using 3d Acceleration from GPU. That is my tips today and many thanks for reading.

You can test your profile 2D/3D mode with application mode.
