Tips [Windows] : How to make custom resolution in Catalyst driver
Computer Hardware & Software, Tips & trick, by brigs.Catalyst is a official driver that release by ATI/AMD for their product graphics card. All feature almost can be adjusted from these driver. from information your graphics card, color profile, 3D enhancement till overdrive utility that flying your GPU and memory clock. All these feature by meaning is to make complete product and easy to use for end user. By the way they missed little thing to make custom resolution from non standard monitor. That means a custom resolution that not include from ATI Catalyst profile. Nvidia user can make easy custom resolution from Nvidia control panel. I found these little annoying since i still using an old CRT monitor with 4:3 proportional and maximum resolution up to 1600×1200 70hz. From original setting Catalyst itself only follow with such resolution :
1. 640×480 (VGA) 4:3
2. 800×600 (SVGA) 4:3
3. 1024×768 (XGA) 4:3
4. 1280×720, 1280×800, 1280×960 (4:3) dan 1280×1024
5. 1360×1024
6. 1440×900 16:9
7. 1600×1200 4:3
From resolution table above, i want make 2 custom resolution with 4:3 proportional 1200×900 and 1400×1050 without helping by 3th party tools. How make that ? Hmm very easy, you just using a registry editor tools or regedit to make them
1. Open regedit with click Start –> Run –> regedit and press Enter
2. Backup your windows registry (if you make wrong) and you can easy export your registry to restore change later.
3. Find string [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlVideo{5877A800-64D5-412E- B5C1-7D5BA6B0AE6E}000
For number behind 0000 could be random and you can find wich 0000 key is right for you with open a child three under 0000 key exactly.
4. Find string name "DALNonStandarModesBCDx" (where x is number beetwen 1 to 4 for saving custom block resolution), right click and edit.
5. Enter right binary digit for your monitor where first 8 digit is resolution control and 2 last digit is frequency your working hertz for reducing flicker.
6. Close your windows regedit and reboot your system
7. Voila... you just make custom resolution for your system monitor.
